Jesus Democrats is a forum for Democratic Party members and others who believe that if Jesus were to be alive today in America, if he were to be fully human and with the spirit of the Father in him, he would have been a proud Democrat.
The cause of universal health and being a good neighbor are some of the underlining themes of Jesus’ ministry. Jesus died so that we may live – that’s freedom; he thought us humility, care, and compassion for others, especially those who are less privileged, neglected or scorned. We believe that the policies and ideas at the heart of the Democratic party agree with the works and teachings of our lord and savior, Jesus Christ.
The essence of his coming was total freedom to mankind; complete freedom begins with spiritual freedom. Under the Law no one came into God’s Holy of Holies (a place cordoned off with a high curtain where God manifested His presence or glory) except the High Priest once a year (see Exodus 26:33-35; Hebrews 9:1-9). Through Christ’s death (a moment when the curtain that granted access to only the priest tore from top to bottom, according to Matthew 27:50.51) and resurrection, the divine, the majesty, the awesomeness, the one that reigns forever and ever, the one whose glory blackens a mountain, dries the sea, suspends the galaxies in an infinite and unending space granted everyone of us – no matter the race, circumstances or rank – access to His throne any time, any day, and any moment. The cause for universal freedom, for the equality of all man, is at the soul of the Democratic Party.
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Jesus healed the sick: by his stripes we were (yes, we were) healed (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24); Jesus went about doing good, healing the sick, freeing the mentally oppressed (Acts 10:38). Government is human and does no miracle, but sometimes the miracle is in the idea, work or policy. As Democrats we believe that universal healthcare (physical healing, mental healing) is the closest we can get to “by whose stripes [we] were healed.” Jesus, if he were here, would still be going about doing healing.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Jesus took care of the poor, his apostles made sure none lacked in their midst (see Acts 4:4; compare with Matthew 19:21; Acts 2:45; 2 Corinthians 8:14). In Christianity, more is expected of and from the rich (Deuteronomy 16:10,17; Romans 12:8). In a world where many are selfish, where privilege is tilted and opportunities unequal, it is the duty of the government to make sure those who have benefited with and in the system to give back to help maintain the system. Democrats believe that the rich should contribute more in taxes to help lessen the inequalities in the world.
As politically conscious Christians, even though we believe that “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked [are in power], the people mourn” (Proverbs 29:2), we believe in the complete separation of state and religion (or church and state). No one can make legislation to send people to heaven. Christianity is a personal relationship with God though Jesus Christ, not a national religion.
We are very proud of our association to Jesus Christ and the Christian values. We intend to project and promote that connection not just with the ranks and files of our party but with all those who share these universal values.
